Seminar by Diego Angel faretto and Gerzovich.
THE SYMBOL OF THE SHIP IN THE CINEMA, LITERATURE AND POLITICS
- Melville, Conrad, Titanic (Cameron)
- Apocalypse Now (Coppola)
- Lifeboat (Hitchcock)
The ship is one of the most archaic symbolic media. It has always been accompanied by the human relationship with the maritime element and the figurehead of the trip. Old to the New Testament, from Noah's Ark to the Catholic Church as a ship. In Greece, Homer precedes the myth of Argos and reappears strongly in the tragic (eg, Medea). Virgil and Seneca remain in force in Rome. And in modern times, mediated by medieval and Renaissance re-readings, makes its way to the twentieth century the hand of Poe, Melville, Conrad, Schmitt, Jünger among many others. There is resumed and completed by the film with particular force.
The course has its axis in the analysis of Cameron's films, Coppola and Hitchcock, but they are open to dialogue with theological traditions, literature and meta.
Angel faretto As he writes: "we go in search of employment of the ship and the symbolism of the sea voyage in dialectical opposition to the land and the land."
